Recreating jobs
Hartland Park is ideally located for a logistics operation. In their response to Hart Council’s consultation, the South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) confirmed their support for the plans stating:
"The Regional Economic Strategy aims to support the continued success of economically buoyant areas in the region, including the North East Hampshire Area. To achieve this requires us to meet the growth needs of key sectors such as logistics within this part of the region. Locations in the inner south east, with good access to the motorway network are in high demand from logistics operators as this is close to so much of their market. Sites further from this core market would be likely to add to cost, overall lorry miles travelled and hence congestion. Hartland Park is a good location in that respect."
"The fact that Hartland Park is an existing brown field site adds to its credentials as a sustainable location. There will be very few brown-field sites of this size in the inner south east able to deliver a major logistics development, particularly sites which are already allocated for employment uses in the relevant Local Plan.”In its heyday, the site employed around 1,600 people. The proposal will help re-create this level of employment, in line with the Council's planning policies. It is also estimated that the development will have knock-on benefits for the local economy, possibly creating an additional 350 jobs for local firms."
PRUPIM and Astral will employ a Community Liaison Officer to discuss training needs with local training bodies and colleges while the new occupiers will be required to put in place training strategies for the new employees.
